Comfort Room by Room, No Ductwork Required

A ductless mini-split is a heat pump with wall-mounted indoor heads instead of ducts, which is why so many Metro Vancouver character homes, condos, basement suites, and additions run on one. Each head conditions its own space, so nobody has to negotiate over the thermostat.

Maple Furnace Heating & Air Conditioning installs and services single-zone and multi-zone ductless systems across the Lower Mainland from our shop at A-6892 Merritt Ave in Burnaby. Pick the page that matches what you need, or call 604-324-4328.

Single-Zone or Multi-Zone

The choice comes down to how many spaces you want to heat and cool.

  • Single-zone. One outdoor unit paired with one indoor head. This suits a single room, an addition, a finished basement, or any space that always runs too hot or too cold. Mitsubishi single-zone systems and the Daikin ATMOSPHERA, OTERRA, and ENTRA units are strong options here.
  • Multi-zone. Several indoor heads connected to one outdoor condenser, each room holding its own temperature. The Mitsubishi multi-zone systems we install support anywhere from two to eight indoor units, so a whole home can run on a single condenser.

Multi-zone systems need careful sizing to balance the connected indoor capacity against the outdoor unit, which is part of the site survey we complete on every quote.

Ductless Brands We Install and Service

  • Mitsubishi - one of the most widely installed ductless lines in Metro Vancouver, especially in character homes and condos without ductwork. We service indoor heads, outdoor condensers, and multi-zone setups.
  • Fujitsu - a common choice for residential and light-commercial ductless applications across the region, including cold-climate models suited to BC winters.
  • Daikin - frequently deployed in single-zone and multi-zone configurations throughout the Lower Mainland.

If your ductless system carries a different badge, contact us anyway. Our technicians diagnose most systems regardless of brand, and replacing a single failed head is often possible without changing the whole system.

Ductless Heating Through a BC Winter

Because a mini-split is a heat pump, it heats as well as it cools. In the Lower Mainland's mild, wet climate a well-maintained ductless system can carry most of a home's heating load through the season, which is why so many Burnaby and Vancouver homes use one as a primary heat source.

Modern cold-climate ductless systems keep producing useful heat well below freezing, but they depend on a healthy refrigerant charge and a working defrost cycle to do it. Higher-elevation neighbourhoods such as Coquitlam's Burke Mountain see colder lows than the valley floor, so winter performance matters more there. If your system is not keeping up, our mini-split repair team can tell you whether it is a charge, airflow, or control problem.

A ductless heat pump is also one of the most rebate-friendly upgrades a BC homeowner can make. Cold-climate systems from Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, and Daikin often qualify for CleanBC and Canada Greener Homes incentives, and select municipalities add top-ups. Because eligibility depends on the equipment model, its efficiency rating, and correct professional installation, we size and install every system to keep your rebate eligibility intact. Our BC heat pump rebate guide has the full breakdown.

Ductless Mini-Split FAQ

  • Does Maple Furnace install ductless systems as well as repair them?
Yes. We install single-zone and multi-zone ductless systems and we service the ones already in place, including systems we did not install ourselves.
  • What is involved in a professional mini-split installation?
A site survey and sizing, indoor head placement, line-set and condenser installation, the electrical connection, commissioning and testing, and guidance on the rebate paperwork. Skipping the survey is how systems end up the wrong size for the space.
  • How long does a ductless mini-split last in the Lower Mainland?
Ductless systems typically last 12 to 15 years in our mild climate. A major fault on a system near the end of that range is rarely worth a large repair, and we give you the honest numbers before recommending a path.
  • Can I add ductless cooling to a home with no ductwork?
That is exactly what ductless is for. Wall-mounted indoor heads connect to an outdoor condenser through a small line-set, so there is no need to build duct runs into a character home, condo, or finished basement.
  • Is a mini-split the same thing as a heat pump?
A ductless mini-split is a type of heat pump, which is why it heats in winter and cools in summer from the same equipment. The difference is delivery: ductless uses indoor heads per zone, while a central heat pump distributes conditioned air through ductwork.
